No Korean event is complete without the GROUP PICTURE!
One of the perks of being on a Fulbright grant here in South Korea is the institutional support and network provided by the Korean-American Educational Commission. Last weekend, all of the current junior research grantees were flown to Jeju Island to participate in a small-scale conference. Each grantee presented a progress report of sorts, and it was fascinating to see the breadth of topics being researched this year. It was also nice just to have a change of scene and a chance to catch up with friends. Here are some photos from the weekend.

Narrative journalist Misty Edgecomb, Caleb Raynor (Misty's spouse), and budding novelist Richard Won at dinner. Misty is conducting research on one of the first cases of international adoption during the Korean War; the adoptee is Caleb's father. Richard is in the midst of writing a novel about a Korean-American family that runs a funeral home. Oh, and yes, those are real palm trees in the background!

Nice, thanks for the news. Here in Boston, we had a concert with the Fulbrighters around. Was fun, and great music!
